AUTHOR'S DESCRIPTION:
A nice loop that starts at the TownHall parking lot in Port Austin. We suggest you travel south out of town and then travel in a counter-clockwise direction. Once out of the picturesque town, there's a wide shoulder on M-25 that takes you to Hellems Rd and on to Stoddard. Turn left on M-25 and staying on the wide shoulder in about 2 miles turn right onto Lighthouse Rd and you will soon come to Lighthouse County Park where you can enjoy the historic lighthouse and area history.
Follow the directions into Grindstone city and you'll see the historic grindstones along the road and read historic markers about the area geology and cultural history. Once you return to Port Austin, you can rent a kayak in town and view the unusual "Flower Pot" rock formations out in the lake or just play on the beach! One can also make this a much longer loop by continuing on Hellems Rd south to E.Kindle and head East to Port Hope and they up toward Lighthouse rd. ! There's also an annual group ride, The 5th annual Tour di Lago, which has a 12.5, 25 or 62 mile bicycle tour along beautiful Lake Huron. The 62 mile route travels through rural areas as well as the shoreline. COMMENTS:
